Celebrate Dance premieres April 25

Celebrate Dance premieres in two months! The April 25 concert offers music-lovers an evening of fun, food, dance and original music from seven award-winning composers: Nan Avant, Glenna Burmer, Barry Dowsett, Maria José Félix, Eric Goetz, Tim Huling and Lonnie Mardis.

Featuring the distinctive rhythms and sounds of Mexico, Brazil, Spain, Cuba and the Caribbean, this unique concert celebrates the beat of calypso, the passion of tango, a Brazilian samba, and a composition that is inspired by traditional Mexican folk music, plus more!

In addition to his Brazilian-inspired composition written just for Celebrate Dance, Huling will also conduct the orchestra that evening, featuring musicians hand-selected for this event. A product of Seattle’s esteemed jazz-education programs, Huling teaches at Berklee College of Music in Boston.

One of the evening’s more fun moments is sure to be the snappy mambo written by Glenna Burmer. Its alternating C major and C minor variations on a theme and steady rhythmic drum-beat are sure to get people up out of their seats and snaking around the room in a conga line.

Many of the compositions will be interpreted through dance. Original dance choreography for this evening is provided by Jennifer Porter, formerly with Pacific Northwest Ballet.

This concert is sold out, but concert CDs will be available this spring. Join our mailing list so you’ll be first to know.
